Carlos Ferreira's Melbourne Samba School is open to people from all walks of life and drumming levels to learn to play in a real samba percussion ensemble environment.
The "bateria" is excellent for team building and socializing; bateria is the percussion section of a samba school. Some samba schools in Rio have over 400 people on its bateria.
Here is your chance to participate in the Melbourne Samba School's "bateria" weekly rehearsals. Learn how to play samba grooves with the proper feel by participating and, most importantly, having lots of fun!
Genuine Brazilian instruments are provided and no experience is necessary. After an initial eight-week period you might be elegible to become a member of an ever-growing community of percussionists and also be eligible for a range of benefits including discounts on fine percussion instruments and invitation to special events. A wide range of newly arrived percussion instruments is also available for sale.
We are very proud to have currently a fantastic "bateria" formed bypeople from all over the world and capable to deliver a genuine Rio samba sound with intricate percussion arrangements. Countries that have been / are represented in our "bateria" (apart from Australia and Brazil) include: India, Holland, England, Czech Republic, Italy, Philippines, Canada, Ireland, Uruguay, Portugal, El Salvador, Japan, France, Scotland, New Zealand, Argentina, Hong Kong, and Wales.
