SUINGUE BRAZUCA – The Golden Years of Brazilian Music
Elisabeth Murdoch Hall
During the time of Bossa Nova and Sergio Mendes & Brazil 66, the 1960s were the golden years of Brazilian Music. These were the iconic movements that became synonymous with Brazilian music across the world.
But that’s just one part of a much longer and much richer musical story. There were many more gems that 1960s Brazil produced still unknown by audiences outside of Brazil today – including exceptionally beautiful and vibrant songs by interpreters such as Elza Soares, Elizeth Cardoso, Elis Regina and Leny de Andrade.
Having grown up in Rio as a teenager in the 60’s and lucky enough to be exposed to this musical richness, drummer Carlos Ferreira wants to share this outstanding music with audiences, brought to life by his signature rhythm and flair and supported by a lively band of passionate musicians that will transform Elisabeth Murdoch Hall into a hive of energy reminiscent of Brazil in the 1960s.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Brazilian Master Drummer CARLOS FERREIRA is one of Australia’s most exciting and innovative interpreters of Samba Jazz and Brazilian rhythms. Born and raised in Vila Isabel, Rio de Janeiro, he moved to Australia in 1985, founding MelSamba (Australia’s first Samba School), going on to train people of all ages both in Australia and around the world. Through his bands, including BrazJaz and Suingue Brazuca, he has introduced Samba Jazz (an unique genre of music created in Rio during the 60’s, spearheaded by saxophonist J.T. Meirelles) to musicians and audiences.
